Some of the significant boxes to be ticked with the corporates and datacentres at the moment concern green issues, and SSD should help make inroads into acheiving objectives to lower power consumption and cooling requirements, not to mention the possibility of clawing back some of that premium-cost physical space in the datacentre. However in seems an interesting move away from the rest of the storage industry Western Digital are rumoured to be developing a 20,000 rpm drive to compete against SSD.
